According to research recently published by leading UK conveyance providers My Home First, 70% of those moving home will purchase a property less than twenty miles from their previous postcode.

Goran and partner Matt have proved this statistic even further by moving just down the road from their previous rental property into a one bedroom flat at The Levers in Elephant & Castle.

Working in finance gave Goran a strong grasp of the financial benefits and requirements to getting onto the property ladder, leading him and Matt to explore Help to Buy offerings.

“Renting was so expensive and we were just seeing money leave that we would never get back. The property ladder can be so competitive but by using Help to Buy, it was far easier to purchase our flat. We only had to put down a 5% deposit and don’t have to pay interest for five years, which works perfectly.”

Prior to buying at The Levers, Goran and Matt had already lived in Elephant & Castle for four years and knew they wanted to make it their permanent home.

“We had already been looking because we wanted to stay in the area but nothing felt like the right property. When The Levers was being built, we were keen to take a look and ended up going the first day it came to market. We both immediately fell in love”.

They were astonished with the spacious and stylish apartment featuring impressive specifications as well as the unique building creating a sense of belonging.

“The Levers offered a far higher quality of build than we’ve had before so we didn’t have to find more budget to refurbish and we moved straight in. I personally also like that the building is in brick and matches well with the surrounding buildings – It feels like a proper part of Elephant & Castle.”

Elephant & Castle’s thriving community was a major factor for Goran and Matt choosing to settle due to the large improvement project being laid out by the council. The South East town has become a hub for arts and culture creating a rise in a younger population.

“The area is always changing and is always improving. There are now places that are known all over London such as pop up Mercato Metropolitano which has an incredible vibe and brings in so many different people.” Goran says “But, the area has kept its authenticity with the local pubs and restaurants and you can see life being added every day…it’s great.”

On the cusp of Zone one, Elephant & Castle is also excellently connected to major transport links via the Bakerloo and Northern line as well as major national rail services making it perfect for commuters.

Goran and Matt found the purchase to be a quick and smooth process, and now enjoy living in their dream apartment.

“We stood in the show room for twenty minutes just staring at each other in awe. It’s a huge decision to purchase a property but this felt right straight away. We never imagined that we would live somewhere like this and it’s perfect”.

The Levers has a selection of two- and three-bedroom apartments available for purchase through Private Sale, starting at £595,000. Help to Buy is available on certain properties.
