Aurelia, one of Canning Town’s most recent developments, is now complete. The new development consists of 123 stylish apartments, with additional communal facilities, public library and 12,000 sq ft of retail space.

It’s also a vital part of the regeneration of Rathbone Market – and its completion marks a significant step in the area’s exciting transformation. Here’s some more information about Aurelia, and how Rathbone Market has been improved beyond recognition.

Aurelia – Contemporary Living

The Aurelia development is the second phase of the regeneration scheme situated in the heart of Canning Town. It is made up of two connected public spaces; a market square and a further space linking the exit of the existing subway running beneath the A13. Three buildings surround these new public areas, featuring communal roof gardens, plus retail units and facilities for market traders.

The buildings have striking exteriors, with glazed terracotta rainscreen cladding in dark orange and yellow, which complements the grey and red aluminium classing of the Vermilion tower next door (phase one). This Mediterranean palette is designed to bring warmth and vibrancy to the landscape.

The Apartments

All of Aurelia’s one and two bedroom apartments are decked out with fully fitted modern kitchens, plus bathrooms with ceramic tiled floors, and living spaces with oak engineered flooring. They’re also protected with multiple point locking systems and video entry systems.

Outdoor space is also available to residents, with several of the apartments offering a terrace or balcony overlooking the communal space. When designing Aurelia, the architects placed particular emphasis on sustainability, and as a result, all apartments have energy efficient down-lighters, plus other sustainable features.

The Regeneration of Rathbone Market

Rathbone Market, one of London’s oldest surviving markets, is in the process of being regenerated, and Aurelia has been designed to complement and enhance the surroundings.

Plans for Rathbone Market focus on the creation of a new market square, right in the centre of the Aurelia development itself. The primary function is to reinvigorate and refresh this historic market, and bring more shoppers into the area. Expansion is also taking place, to allow for increased, more diverse trading.

Community is at the heart of the masterplans, and the London Borough of Newham also established new community facilities and landscaped areas as part of the plans. In a bid to bring more home-buyers and investors into the Canning Town area, transport links have also been improved, and it’s anticipated that there will be a Crossrail station here in the future.

Exciting Redevelopment

Canning Town has been ripe for regeneration for some time now. Its proximity to many of London’s major landmarks, including the O2 Arena (2 minutes), Oxford Street (25 minutes), Eurostar (30 minutes) and Canary Wharf (6 minutes) already make it desirable to commuters – and Aurelia’s development marks another important step of Canning Town’s major regeneration journey.
